The Ground Changes Between Them
This is not a formality. Southwest Michigan is glacial terrain and the deposits vary over short distances — outwash sand and gravel in some places, clay till in others, moraine ridges between them. Two houses ten minutes apart can have completely different drainage behavior, and a repair that is right in one is wrong in the other.
Low ground near the Kalamazoo River carries a higher water table, seasonally more so, and hydrostatic problems concentrate there. Higher ground on the moraines drains better but often sits on clay that swells against a wall when it saturates. Older neighbourhoods closer to the center have more block and stone foundations, which fail by cracking at the mortar joints and moving inward rather than simply leaking.
None of that changes what the repairs are. It changes which one your house needs, which is why the inspection happens before the number.
